The Hope Community Outreach Center has been practically running on fumes since 2005.
Despite this, we have hosted dozens of programs and events. In general they
have been highly successful and well received by the community.
From River Sharks Baseball to participation in the Haddonfield
Orchestra, from computer literacy classes to the Food Pantry,
the Hope Community Outreach Center has provided a beacon of light in a darkest
heart of Camden.
Located at 1299 Morton St., the Center is in the center
of Whitman Park, where drug activity approaches an open air
drug market scene and forty percent of the murders in Camden
are committed.
Yes, the fact is that Camden has been named the number one
per capita murder and crime capital of America by several
sources, and has been given the number three spot in that
category by the US Census Bureau.
Yet despite this we are finding that young people seek guidance
and respond well to it under even the most adverse conditions.
Parents are being helped by our After School Program alone,
where a watchful eye and a guiding hand helps kids become scholastic
successes and socially well-adjusted.
Through the Hope Center, groups like the Lion's Club and
the Kennedy Health System have brought better health to the
community via the Mobile Vision Clinic and the "Give
a Smile Day" dental program.
Don't even mention the great time had by all at events like
the River Sharks games where our team wore discounted T-shirts
from A. C. Moore with our logo printed on them by Cosmic Custom
Screen Printing, LLC. With almost no money, we have done more
good than we have space to mention here.
Better Days Ahead
We have bigger plans on the drawing board that are being deployed
as we speak. We want to up the stakes; that is, provide deeper,
more fundamentally life-changing programs. We will need your
help for this. Please click the links below and find out how
you can play a part in in bringing success and prosperity
to Camden.
